You may think you’ve heard them all before, but even the most grizzled managers are likely to be impressed by the reasons these employees couldn’t make it to work on time.
CareerBuilder recently surveyed more than 3,000 hiring managers and HR pros to find the most unusual excuses employees offered for coming into work late.
Here are five of our favorites:
- I got distracted watching the “Today” show.
- My angry roommate cut the cord on my phone charger, it didn’t charge and my alarm didn’t go off.
- A fox stole my car keys.
- I thought I won the lottery.
- I thought my commute time counted toward my work hours.
The CareerBuilder survey also attempted to gauge how often employers have to deal with tardy workers. According to the survey, 16% of employees come in to work late once per week or more, and another 30% do it at least once per month.
